In the space of eight days, the Sussexes have gone from confirming their UK trip as a family and accepting accommodation at a royal residence from King Charles, to having their taxpayer-funded security rejected and terror threats leaked. Now, surprise, surprise, the red-headed prince has begrudgingly left his sun-soaked villa in California for a few days to return to his old stomping ground, seemingly against his will.

In my opinion, the whole ordeal was utterly pointless. Harry has known for more than six years that he will not have access to police protection in the UK. He was informed before he and Meghan stepped down as working royals in 2020.

But for some reason, the dad-of-two seems surprised by the rejection every time he schedules a trip to the UK. Realistically, there should be no doubt in his mind that this rule won't change, after a High Court reinforced the ruling back in 2024 when he challenged it.

However, the decision appears to have surprised the royal all the same, so much so that he pulled the plug on his wife and children accompanying him to London. His decision came following a report investigating six alleged terrorist plots against the Sussexes, many of which are allegedly based in the UK.

The royal's indecision feels like something one of the writers at Coronation Street would pull, teasing viewers just enough to keep watching. They're coming! Oh wait, no they're not. But yes, they are! Nope, wrong again, just teasing you.

Royal commentator Paula Froelich compared the latest Sussex drama to the popular television soap opera Days of Our Lives, and I couldn't agree with her more. She declared: "Welcome to another episode of Days of Our Montecito lives.

"These two fools... It's like they just never learn. It is such a soap opera - and like a good soap opera, plots can change on a whim!" All that attention the Sussexes swore they didn't want has only grown exponentially since they moved across the pond.

Except, it's only the bad kind that no one in their right mind would want. Their indecision brings shame and embarrassment to the country and to the monarchy. And with the world operating in such a tense political climate, making Brits look like fools is only going to do more harm than good.

But hopefully, there is one thing the Sussexes can take away from this whole ordeal: Come. Don't come. We don't care, and ultimately, the only one who will is the King.
