GB News presenter Nana Akua believes Andy Burnham has "already started on the same track as Keir Starmer" as she discussed the possibility of him becoming the next prime minister. The MP for Makerfield is currently the only candidate to have emerged in the Labour leadership race following Sir Keir's resignation on Monday (June 22).

Despite agreeing with some of his policies, Akua confessed she wouldn't be holding her breath as Burnham has U-turned before he's even made it into office. Speaking exclusively to the Daily Express at the TRIC Awards, the GB News host, 54, said: "I think that Andy Burnham is even more left wing than Keir Starmer. Some of his policies I agree with, like nationalising water. I don't think that's a private entity at all, there's no elements of competition in it. But unfortunately, he's already started on the same track as Keir Starmer."

She continued: "He's been U-turning already on the EU, now he realises people aren't going to tolerate it. I'm not holding my breath and I'm thinking that he's going to have to call a general election.

"I think Nigel Farage predicted it greatly. 2027, that's where we're heading. If Andy Burnham doesn't stop those boats, then we will stop him."

Akua admitted she was "overjoyed" by the news of Starmer's resignation, arguing that he should have stepped down much sooner.

The TV host declared: "He should have gone a long time ago. If I were him, I would've gone before Andy Burnham would have had any chance and I would have called a general election. But he's not wise enough to do that, so he clung onto the end."

"I think even last week, he thought that he should stay. I just loved Donald Trump saying, 'Keir Starmer is leaving tomorrow.' He announced that on Truth Social during my show so I was pleased about that."

After labelling Sir Keir's tenure "a disaster", Akua said she believes Nigel Farage is the best candidate to run the country.

"That's not because I support Reform, it's because the party is saying what the country is thinking. Stop those boats and start looking after the people of this country.

Until that point, we're going to spend more on welfare than we are on things that people really need like more jobs and less tax, then unfortunately I think this country is going to go down the pan, and we can't have that!"
