Beloved actress, author, and TV presenter Sophie Faucher died surrounded by her loved ones on Tuesday, June 9, at the age of 68. The news was confirmed by her agency, Eugénie Gaillard, who said: "Sophie Faucher left a profound mark on the cultural landscape in many different ways." She had been diagnosed with a recurrence of cancer early this year, which had forced her to drop out of a summer tour of the comedy play Le Duplex in April, and she ultimately succumbed to the disease.

The star enjoyed a career spanning more than four decades, but is best known for playing the Botoxed billionaire ex-model Crystale Bouvier-Montgomery in the Quebec series, Le cœur a ses raisons. She was also in demand for her dubbing skills. She dubbed Julie Christie's Madam Rosmerta in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban in 2004 and was the regular voice of Queen Latifah and Kristen Johnston. She had also voiced Hollywood heavyweights Viola Davis and Allison Janney in various roles.

The star also spent over 30 years celebrating iconic Mexican painter Frida Kahlo. She wrote the internationally toured play La Casa Azul and co-created the 2025 animated film, Hola Frida.

Alongside that, she penned four children's books about the artist and another about legendary opera star Maria Callas.

Tributes flooded in as fans learned the tragic news. Taking to Facebook, one wrote: "She was one of the most jovial women in our midst. She walked into a room and, before she even uttered a word, her presence was already felt. Her laugh. Her energy. Her exuberance...Today, the artistic community loses a tremendous actress. What a beautiful voice. But those who knew her also lost a deeply loving, generous, larger-than-life woman."

Another added: "It makes me truly, truly sad. 68 years old. She was part of my generation. A great lady who could do tragedy (great classical and popular plays) as well as comedy....One of the most beautiful female voices in Quebec. Thank you, beautiful lady."

A third chimed in: "How sad. Sophie Faucher was an exceptional artist, but above all, a woman whose warmth, joie de vivre, and radiant energy touched everyone she met. Her talent enriched our culture, and her laughter will continue to resonate in the hearts of those who knew and loved her."

A fourth penned: "My deepest condolences to her family, loved ones, and the entire artistic community. May her memory remain a blessing, and may her light continue to inspire those she touched."

A fifth lamented: "I am so saddened... She was an incomparable person... I loved her very much... she made me laugh so much... 68 years old! May your soul rest in peace... You will always live on in my heart, Sophie... you embodied the joy of life wherever you went... Goodbye, beautiful Sophie Faucher... xxx."

Meanwhile, a sixth opined: "An actress with an extraordinary presence and charisma, an incredible talent. She could make us laugh or cry, which is quite rare."
