Ex-Spandau Ballet frontman Ross Davidson has been found guilty of rape today (January 28) at Wood Green Crown Court. Jurors found him guilty of raping a woman in London in 2015, and of attempting to rape and sexually assaulting another woman in Thailand in 2019.
The 37-year-old is best known by his stage name Ross Wild, and performed as the singer for 80s band Spandau Ballet as well as landing a starring role in Queen musical We Will Rock You on the West End. He had pleaded not guilty to both counts, insisting his actions were consensual. But jurors found him guilty on all counts after more than 11 hours of deliberation.
Prosecutor Richard Hearnden said Davidson had been seen as "a bit of a sex symbol", but the two women claimed he had "a much darker side that they did not notice" at first.
The Aberdeen-born singer and songwriter committed the assaults because he believed he could get "sex on demand".
Although he was considered "charming and charismatic", it was this expectation that led him to commit the crimes if he didn't receive what he believed he deserved, Mr Hearnden said.
Davidson described himself as "sex positive" and that he was "open dialogue, open-mindedness about people's predilections, just an openness to trying different sexual appetites".
