However, the Daily Express understands that no decision has been made on their potential appearance elsewhere in the UK. The duke is expected to carry out engagements for the Invictus Games, WellChild and Scotty’s Little Soldiers, some of which will be taking place outside of London. It comes after reports earlier this week that the duke was still trying to find a way to safely bring his wife and children to the UK, amid concerns about their security and confusion about where they would stay.

The duke was awaiting a review by the Risk Management Board (RMB), part of the process through which the Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures (Ravec) rules on his security requirements.

Just days before the trip began, the Sussexes were informed that no decision had been taken, while reports suggested that a request for police protection for the upcoming trip had been turned down.

Following Saturday’s bombshell update on the Sussexes’ return to Britain, royal fans took to social media to express their views.

One user, Royal News Network, who often criticised the Montecito couple, questioned their security concerns.

They said on X: “London is bad but everywhere in the U.K. is fine?

“The sheer stupidity of all this is insane, and a reminder that Harry and Meghan bring nothing but toxicity and chaos. It’s not worth it, Charles.”

Another one blasted: “The circus!”

A third one wrote: “It’s ridiculous. The King needs to put an end to being dragged into their endless soap opera.”

A fourth one opined: “Harry and Meghan revel in mayhem. This visit was supposed to be charity-based. That's going really well.”

A fifth one commented: “It’s time to remove him from Invictus. All the drama will stop and the focus will once again be on the soldiers.”

Harry has faced a prolonged legal battle with the Home Office over the security arrangements for him and his family when in the UK after his level of protection changed when he stepped down as a working royal in 2020.

When the duke lost a Court of Appeal challenge against the Home Office last year, he gave a BBC interview in which he expressed hope for reconciliation with his family, revealing that Charles would not speak to him because of his security court case. Harry added: “I can’t see a world in which I would be bringing my wife and children back to the UK at this point and the things that they’re going to miss is, well, everything you know.”
