Mad Max star Kjell Nilsson has sadly died at the age of 76 after a "long and painful" battle with kidney disease, his family have announced. The beloved Hollywood actor passed away on Thursday (July 2) in Queensland, Australia, surrounded by his loved ones after fighting the illness for four years. The Swedish-born star was an Olympic-class weightlifter - a skill which became hugely useful when he was cast in Mad Max 2.
The actor portrayed Lord Humungus, nicknamed The Road Warrior, and was known for his chiselled physique. On Thursday (July 2), his family took to his Facebook account to announce his passing with his loyal legion of fans online. It read: "As many of you know, Kjell had been battling end-stage kidney disease for the past four and a half years, receiving dialysis three days a week.
“It was a long and painful journey, filled with countless battles to overcome, including the gradual loss of his bodily autonomy. This past Sunday, after much consideration, Kjell made the decision to take back control over his pain and his body by stopping dialysis.”
