Sir Rod Stewart has addressed his recent health woes after cancelling a gig at the 11th hour. Earlier this month, the Maggie May singer was seen using an oxygen tank on stage during his US tour. But the hitmaker appears to be in better health as he embarks on the European leg of his tour, performing without breaks in a recent gig in the heart of Lisbon.

According to The Mirror, the musician was seen toasting his health before updating viewers on his condition ahead of the show. The Scotsman charged a glass of whiskey before telling fans at Rock in Rio Lisboa: "I'm going to drink to health, it's been most enjoyable, but we've still got a long way to go.

"Saturday night - are Portugal going to win the World Cup? Fingers crossed. The last time I did this festival was 2008; it's better now, much better," he added. Just over two years after the day Tina Turner passed away, the musician paid tribute to his friend in his touching speech.

He went on: "[She] was a good friend of mine", before later displaying Tina's portrait on stage as he performed their 1991 hit single, It Takes Two. Earlier this month, doctors had diagnosed Sir Rod with an acute upper respiratory infection, which later caused laryngitis, meaning he was unable to sing.

But his illness couldn't keep him from enjoying his love of football, when the rocker was spotted in the stands at Boston Stadium watching Scotland secure a victory against Haiti in the World Cup 2026.

Speaking about his illness at the time, he admitted: "I got an awful... I really shouldn't have gone to the Haiti game. You know, I had to cancel a show the night before because I just had no voice left. But the truth is, Jim, I wasn't going to let my two sons down."

Explaining his reason, he continued: "I promised them since they were born that we were going to go to a World Cup. And this is the first one that's come about. And it wasn't a good look, I admit, but I'm going to have to just take the stick. So I did it for the boys."

It comes after Stewart distracted BBC fans minutes into his 2025 Glastonbury performance. In a repeat episode of Rod Stewart at Glastonbury this weekend, viewers watched the rocker once again take to the Pyramid Stage on the final day of the by-annual festival at Worthy Farm.

Accompanied by his band and several guest singers, he wowed festival goers with his performance. One impressed viewer penned on X at the time: "80 years old. Just feel good throughout. What a star," as another gushed: "Rod Stewart still looks great at the age of 80. He's still got it."
