The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for thunderstorms this evening, due to Saturday's (June 27) heat and humidity. The warning is already active and will be in place from 8.11pm to 11pm tonight.

The thunderstorm warning affects a large part of central and eastern England, covering 54 areas. In its alert, the Met Office said: "Today's heat and humidity has resulted in the development of some thunderstorms, which will move rapidly northeastwards across central and eastern parts of England this evening. Most places will not be impacted, but where they occur brief periods of frequent lightning, strong gusty winds, large hail and heavy rain are possible. Thunderstorms are expected to clear the area later this evening, over the North Sea."

Brits have been warned that the thunderstorms could bring disruption in places this afternoon and early evening. This includes delays and some cancellations to train and bus services, as well as a slight chance of power cuts and other services to homes and businesses.

There is also the risk of sudden flooding and spray, which could lead to difficult driving conditions and road closures.

"There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds," the Met Office added.

Brits are being urged to check moveable objects or temporary structures, including bins, garden furniture and fences, are well secured and to amend travel plans if necessary. With the threat of power cuts, the Met Office is also encouraging people to gather torches and batteries, a mobile phone power pack and other essential items. A flood plan and emergency flood kit are also encouraged for those in areas at risk of flash floods.
