Police have launched an urgent search after a young boy entered the water at a lake in Syston, Leicestershire.

A Leicestershire Police spokesperson said: "Emergency services are currently carrying out searches in Syston to locate a teenage boy who was reported to have entered a lake.

"Police were called to Meynell Lake, in Fosse Way, just after 1.30pm today (Thursday 25 June).

"Officers are currently in attendance with colleagues from Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service. Searches are being carried out to locate the boy and officers are in contact with his next of kin.

"We will provide further updates when we are able to."
