Donald Trump has sparked widespread confusion and fresh concerns about his mental health after posting a puzzling Father’s Day message praising a mystery woman he referred to as a “great daughter”. On Saturday evening, just before 10pm, the 80-year-old president shared a photograph of a blonde woman dressed entirely in black. The accompanying caption simply read: “Great daughter,” followed by “My Honour!!! President DJT.”
Mr Trump has five children from three different marriages. He shares Donald Jr, 48, Ivanka, 44, and Eric, 42, with his first wife Ivana Trump. His second marriage to Marla Maples produced daughter Tiffany, 32, while his youngest son Barron, 20, is with current First Lady Melania.
Online investigators quickly identified the woman in the image as Margo Catsimatidis, wife of billionaire businessman and Trump supporter John Catsimatidis. The identification has not been officially confirmed by the White House, and the Daily Mail has contacted the Catsimatidis family for comment.
Many observers noted that the photograph appeared dated, with some speculating it was taken at Camp David during the Clinton era in the 1990s. The unexpected post triggered an outpouring of bemusement and speculation across social media.
One user on X asked: “No, seriously. Who is that?” Another wrote: “Wait, who the hell is this woman though? Because this photo looks like it’s from the 1990s.” A third observed: “It’s Margo Catsimatidis. No idea why he’s mentioning it’s his honour and daughter.”
The bizarre nature of the message led several commentators to suggest it was further evidence of cognitive decline. One user declared: “This HAS to be dementia.” Another commented: “Further evidence of mental decline. The president is suffering from dementia. Somehow, MAGA will spin this.” A third drew a personal parallel: “My mother has dementia. She was doing stuff that made no sense, like this is the beginning.”
The White House, Mr Trump’s physician and the president himself have consistently insisted he remains in excellent mental and physical health.
The following morning, Mr Trump issued a more conventional Father’s Day message in his characteristic style: “Happy Father’s Day! Our Country is doing GREAT. Record Jobs Numbers and Stock Market, BEST ECONOMY EVER! Greatest Military in the World, by far. We are WINNING on all fronts, WINNING LIKE NEVER BEFORE. GOD BLESS YOU ALL!!! President DONALD J. TRUMP.”
The incident comes amid heightened scrutiny of the president’s health. Just days earlier, at the G7 summit, Mr Trump was spotted with a new purplish mark on his left hand. His right hand is frequently covered with makeup to conceal discoloration, which he attributes to frequent handshaking and aspirin use.
Mr Trump recently celebrated his 80th birthday and released medical results claiming a “PERFECT” check-up. His physician, US Navy Captain Sean Barbarella, stated last month that the president demonstrates “strong cardiac, pulmonary, neurological, and overall physical function.”
However, Mr Trump has faced growing pressure to release fuller medical records, having previously criticised Joe Biden’s fitness. He has also been seen appearing to doze during meetings, which he has dismissed as cabinet sessions being “boring as hell.” Last year, swelling in his ankles was linked to chronic venous insufficiency, a condition common in older adults.
