A batch of a commonly used anti-sickness medicine has been recalled across the UK over manufacturing concerns. The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has issued a recall for Cyclizine Lactate 50mg/ml Solution for Injection, a drug used to prevent and treat nausea and vomiting, including sickness after surgery and other medical treatments.

Healthcare professionals have been told to "stop supplying" the affected batch "immediately", quarantine any remaining stock and return it to their supplier as a precaution.

The recall follows concerns over Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) deficiencies at the manufacturing site. However, the MHRA said the action is being taken "out of an abundance of caution" and has classified it as a Class 3 Medicines Recall.

Patients have been told not to stop taking their medicine if it has been prescribed to them. The MHRA said no further action is required because the recall is taking place at a pharmacy and wholesaler level.

The MHRA statement said: "No further action is required by patients as this recall is being undertaken at a Pharmacy and Wholesaler level as a precautionary measure. Patients should continue to take medicines from these batches as prescribed by your healthcare professional.

"Patients who experience adverse reactions or have any questions about the medication should seek medical attention. Any suspected adverse reactions should also be reported via the MHRA Yellow Card scheme."

It comes after a batch of a commonly prescribed medication used to treat high blood pressure was recalled after a packaging mistake led to some boxes containing a stronger dose than intended. The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) advised anyone taking Crescent Pharma's ramipril 2.5mg capsules to carefully check their packaging.
