International superstar Boy George has thrown his hat in the ring to write next year's Eurovision Song Contest entry for the UK after The Culture Club star took part in the show representing San Marino this year. He co-wrote the track Superstar with Senhit Zadik Zadik, Anderz Wrethov, Thomas Stengaard, Julie Aagaard (Kill J), and John-Emil Johansson. It was performed by Italian star and co-writer Senhit, and he guested on it.
Although he was knocked out in the first semi-final on Tuesday May 12 he admitted he enjoyed the experience and would love to do it again - but this time for his home country. Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk he highlighted the fact it is a song contest while pitching himself to pen a track. "I had a fantastic time [in Vienna]. Absolutely gorgeous. I would like to write the Eurovision entry for the UK - that's what I'd love to do and I think that is what I should do, but don't tell anyone I said that," he quipped laughing and winking.
"It was beautiful though. It was a really beautiful experience. But it is a song contest," he said laughing again. "It is called the Eurovision Song Contest so find the song first and then find the singer," he suggested.
Prior to the contest George had exclusively revealed to this title he initially thought he was entering for the UK.
His management were approached by Senhit and he recalled: "First of all, I thought it was going to be for the UK and I thought 'oh that's strange'.
"Then, when he said it was San Marino, I was like, 'Is that allowed?' So I did a little bit of Chat GPT to find out, and apparently it is. I like that, think for me, it's great to turn up where you're least expected," he laughed.
The star was speaking as he was honoured with a Lifetime Achievement gong at the 2026 British LGBT Awards following busy period.
Reflecting on his four decades at the top of his game he laughed at the idea he had a career. "A career is a horrible idea he laughed. It is not a career. It is not a job."
Asked how it felt to now be an icon that LGBT youth look up to he reflected on his own idols. " My icons were all straight, which was hilarious.
"They were all heterosexual men but they were smart enough to tap into the zeitgeist of what was going on which is always fashion and femininity. To be excluded from femininity is quite scary because it is such an essential place to be in."
