Asda is recalling a popular dinnertime staple after it was found to potentially contain pieces of plastic or metal. The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has urged anyone who has purchased the product to refrain from consuming it.
The FSA stated: " Asda is recalling their Exceptional by ASDA Beer Battered Cod Fishcakes product because it may contain pieces of plastic or metal, making it unsafe to eat."
The specific product affected is Exceptional by ASDA Beer Battered Cod Fishcakes, with a pack size of 290g. The affected use-by dates are May 1, May 2, May 3, May 4 and May 5, 2026.
The FSA said: "Asda is recalling the above product. Point of sale notices will be displayed in all retail stores that are selling this product. These notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product.
"If you have bought the above product do not eat it. Instead, return it to your nearest ASDA store for a full refund. For further information, please contact ASDA's customer relations team on 0330 053 0111."
The FSA clarified that where a food product is deemed unfit for sale, it may either be 'withdrawn' — removed from shelves — or 'recalled', whereby customers are requested to return the item. The FSA noted that it issues Product Recall Information Notices to alert consumers and local authorities to concerns surrounding food products.
In certain instances, a 'Food Alert for Action' is issued. This supplies local authorities with the precise steps that need to be taken on behalf of consumers.
