My family stayed on the edge of town at Hippersons Boatyard, which boasts an impressive selection of glamping options, floating homes and moorings. Positioned along the river's tranquil waters and enveloped by woodland, it proved the ultimate retreat for clearing your head.

Our base for the weekend was Wild Cat Island, which was once featured on Channel 4's My Floating Home, documenting how Hippersons' owners, Mary and Simon, brought this remarkable floating retreat to life. When described as a glamping pod on the water, you might expect something small and purely practical. In reality, it is surprisingly roomy, boasting two bedrooms, a full-sized bathroom, and a charming terrace where you can sit and feed the swans. There are also ample green spaces right outside the pod for kids to burn off some energy.
