Soul-blues singer Barbara Carr has passed away aged 85 following a "legendary" career in the music industry. The beloved star died on April 15 in Illinois, surrounded by her family. Barbara started singing in church as a little girl, growing up in Missouri. She went on to build a recording career around the soul and blues genre. Over the years, her work gained her recognition, and she was the recipient of the Living Blues Readers Award for Female Blues Artist of the Year. She also secured nominations for Blues Music Awards. Her obituary reads: "Barbara shared a loving marriage of 40 plus years with her late husband, Charles Henry Carr Jr., with whom she raised their four children. In later years, she found love again and was united in marriage to Bill Greensmith, who remained by her side."

Tributes have been flooding in for the music star now her death has been made public, with the St Louis Blues Society posting: "As many have already heard, St Louis has lost a legendary artist.

"Barbara Carr passed this week, and now that we have received a formal announcement of her arrangements, we wish to share them with you.

"Thank you, Barbara, for the decades of joy you provided to a world in need of just that. Peace to the family, friends and fans of the amazing Barbara Carr."

A fan penned: "Loved her music, so sorry I never got a chance to see her in concert." Another added: "My condolences praying for the family from the spirit of our ancestors." Meanwhile, someone else wrote: "May her memory be a blessing to all who love her."

Another person shared: "I was so very fortunate to hear her sing in person, and I truly loved her beautiful voice. I cannot tell you how many times over the years I have sung her song over and over in my head. “Good Woman Go Bad” is truly an iconic song. I’m keeping you and your family in my prayers."
