Lots of people plan to jet off abroad this year, but you may want to check your passport before travelling. This is because a common issue can catch people out at airports, and it can cause them to be turned away too.
When embarking on a travel adventure, it's even better when things run smoothly, which means nobody really wants to experience drama at the airport. However, making a small check to your passport now could make all the difference, as if you fail to do so you could be denied the right to travel until the situation gets resolved.
It comes as tourists were also advised to take action earlier this year too. Some people may not realise, but another factor could lead to you experiencing lengthier airport queues.
Someone who alerted people to the issue was Ari Kari, who's known as The Passport Princess on TikTok. In a candid video she explained something that not everyone seems to know, and it's vital to learn the rules before you travel.
Even she admitted it's something she only just discovered. Ari said: "Did you know that if an airport agent considers your passport as damaged that they can deny you from boarding your flight? You really do learn something new every day."
The video quickly got people talking, and hundreds commented too. They offered all sorts of thoughts and personal stories.
One said: "Yes. Almost happened to me. Please y’all, keep your passport in a protector."
Another added: "Yes. Don’t let it get wet EVER!!! I’ve already replaced two passports for that reason."
A third replied: "Yes, it’s as petty as a crease. Get a PROTECTOR AND A PASSPORT CARD."
Someone else also wrote: "Yes, we aren’t just checking if it’s valid. It must be in good condition as well. You aren’t flying if it’s ripped or dingy."
Various people urged holidaymakers to check their passports before travelling this year. Failing to do so could cause you problems.
No matter where you're travelling from or to, you can rarely travel with a damaged passport. It is highly discouraged that anyone attempts to do so.
While minor wear (like a scuffed cover) might pass, significant damage, such as water damage, missing pages or torn, altered or unreadable personal details, will likely lead to being denied boarding or entry.
If you ever notice your passport is damaged, the key is to get it replaced as soon as possible. Generally, airlines are responsible for ensuring passengers have valid documents.
As well as this, border control officials at your destination have the final authority and could deny you entry or may send you back. This is why it's a risk that's really not worth taking.
Before travelling, always ensure there is no damage to the personal details page or peeling laminate. Pages must never be torn either.
