The UK's finest seaside destinations for a mini staycation have been revealed, boasting 'coral' beaches, turquoise waters and traditional beach huts lining the shores. The UK is home to some of the most breathtaking landscapes in the world, with its stunning stretches of coastline playing no small part in that.
From the whitewashed cliffs of Devon to Victorian piers stretching out to sea along the Somerset coast, and the azure waters of Cornwall that rival those of the Caribbean. With a staggering 1,500 beaches scattered across the UK, there's no shortage of options for a weekend escape or seaside mini-break. Yet some have been crowned the very best of the bunch, and the timing couldn't be more perfect ahead of the May bank holiday weekends.

Following research conducted by staycation specialist Sykes Holiday Cottages, the top 10 UK destinations for a short coastal break have now been unveiled. Whether you're seeking a seaside retreat framed by mountain peaks, pristine shores with sugar-white sand, or classic seaside entertainment complete with a pleasure pier, there truly is something for everyone.
Topping the list is the strikingly beautiful Isle of Skye in Scotland, celebrated for its sweeping coastlines set against a dramatic backdrop of rugged mountains and emerald-green valleys. The beaches are truly spectacular, featuring crystal-clear waters, dark volcanic shores and crushed maerl along the renowned Claigan Coral Beach.
St Ives in Cornwall, renowned for its turquoise waters and golden sandy beaches, came in a close second. Nicknamed the 'Cornish California', it has remained a longstanding favourite amongst Brits looking for a getaway in the seaside town, boasting surfing beaches, a picturesque harbour and sheltered bays, reports the Mirror.
One destination that may raise eyebrows, surpassing the likes of Devon, is the varied coastline of Whitby in North Yorkshire. Its principal beach, West Cliff, is celebrated for its expansive stretches of golden sand, traditional beach huts and rock pools, set against a striking backdrop of rugged cliffs and the remains of the historic Whitby Abbey.
Securing fourth position was the vibrant coast of Brighton in East Sussex, featuring its celebrated four-mile promenade, historic Palace Pier overlooking its shingle beach and Victorian arches. Recognised as 'London by the Sea', there's a dynamic atmosphere, an array of restaurants, shops and attractions, alongside its classic seaside appeal.
Another coastal destination that secured a place in the top five was the Causeway Coast in Northern Ireland, famed for its 30-mile expanse of Atlantic coastline, sandy beaches and white chalk cliffs. Villages, towns and harbours are scattered along the coast, providing an idyllic weekend retreat amidst its postcard-perfect scenery.
While Devon narrowly missed out on the top five, its coastline at Torquay secured the holiday hotspot a place in the top 10, alongside Anglesey in North Wales and Bournemouth in Dorset. Cornwall, however, dominated the list, with both Newquay and Padstow also featuring amongst the top 10 finest seaside retreats.
