Viewers are in for a gripping new thriller that takes Line of Duty to a whole new level.

Prisoner is set to air on Sky this week, boasting an impressive cast and a fascinating premise — here's everything you need to know about the unmissable new series, reports the Mirror.

Prisoner will make its debut on Sky on Thursday, April 30, with all six episodes dropping simultaneously — ideal for those looking to binge the entire series in one sitting.

The series has been written by Oscar-nominated screenwriter Matt Charman, who collaborated with Steven Spielberg on Bridge of Spies and has also penned Netflix's Hostage and ITV drama Black Work.

Prisoner centres on Amber Todd (played by Izuka Hoyle), a young prison transport officer entrusted with escorting a highly dangerous and valuable inmate, Tibor Stone (Tahar Rahim), to court to give testimony against his elite crime syndicate.

However, following a brutal ambush on their convoy, she is compelled to flee with him, quite literally placing her life in his hands when she handcuffs herself to him.

The unlikely duo must reach court in time while evading the relentless efforts of the organised crime group determined to silence them both permanently.

The series boasts a top-tier cast headlined by Scottish BAFTA-winning actress Izuka Hoyle, widely recognised for her roles in Boiling Point and Channel 4 sitcom Big Boys.

Joining her is French star and Golden Globe and BAFTA nominee Tahar Rahim, portraying trained assassin Tibor Stone, a man poised to expose everything about the organised crime group he was once employed by.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms star Finn Bennett takes on the role of Olly Hatton, Amber's unsuspecting husband.

Seasoned British actor Eddie Marsan, celebrated for his work in Ray Donovan and Vera Drake, steps into the shoes of Alex Tebbit, Director of Operations at the National Crime Unit.

Rounding out the cast are Catherine McCormack from A Thousand Blows, Sam Troughton known for The Witcher, Temple, Black Doves and A Very Royal Scandal, Laurie Davidson from The Other Bennet Sister and The Girlfriend, and Brían F. O'Byrne.

Prisoner will be released on Sky on Thursday, April 30
