A 14-year-old boy has tragically lost his life after being struck by a train in Nottinghamshire, British Transport Police confirmed. The incident occurred on the railway line in Burton Joyce around 7pm on Wednesday, following reports of a person on the tracks.

Despite the quick response of emergency personnel, the boy was pronounced dead at the scene. East Midlands Railway issued a statement following his death, which impacted routes around Derby, Leicester, and Nottingham. They said: "We are sad to report that a person has been hit by a train.

"This has had a big impact on trains on the Newark Castle/Derby/Crewe and Leicester/Nottingham/Lincoln/Grimsby routes."

A spokesperson for the British Transport Police provided more details about the incident, confirming that it is not being treated as suspicious.

They said: "Officers were called to the railway line in Burton Joyce, Nottinghamshire, at 7.06pm on 26 November to reports of a casualty on the tracks.

"Paramedics also attended, and sadly a 14-year-old boy was pronounced dead at the scene.

"The incident is not being treated as suspicious, and a file will be prepared for the coroner."
