The Prime Minister hit back at GB News' Christopher Hope after the political journalist presented him with a humiliating poll revealing that the channel's viewers feel "worse off" following Labour's Budget, which was delivered yesterday. Keir Starmer was challenged on the poll, which revealed the "overwhelming majority" of GB News fans feel the Budget has "ruined their Christmas" and left them poorer. However, the Prime Minister defended Chancellor Rachel Reeve's tax rises and spending decisions. During the clash with Hope, Starmer stated: "Well, we have asked everybody to make a contribution to the necessary decisions and the fair decisions for our country.

"But what I can say to your viewers is that money is going to protect our NHS, which will be a huge concern of theirs, to make sure that when they and their families need it, I hope they don't over Christmas, but when they do, that it is protected for them."

Hope also challenged the nation's leader further, asking: "Prime Minister, you are raising taxes and giving the money from working people to those on benefits. How can that be right?"

Starmer snapped back: "No, it's going to our NHS, it's going to our schools, it's going across our living measures. But I won't apologise for the fact that we are also lifting 500,000 children out of poverty. I don't want to live in a country where children pay the price for poverty."

Their conversation, which aired on the channel today, caused a backlash online, with someone writing on X: "Using children to deflect from their abysmal tenure is just poor form!"

Another added: "But he does not mind putting pensioners in poverty?"

Despite the pushback, someone else shared: "Well said, Sir Keir. Should have done it earlier, but better late etc etc."

GB News airs daily on YouTube, Sky and Freeview.
