Vernon Kay's father has addressed his son's split from Tess Daly after 23 years of marriage. The couple released a joint statement on Instagram earlier this month. Despite calling time on their relationship, it's said that they have remained friends and even raised a glass once they had hit post on their statement.
Last week the Radio 2 host, 52, thanked fans for their support. But now his dad, Norman Kay, has spoken out on the speculation that another person could have been involved in the couple's sudden breakup. He told Daily Mail: "That's absolutely rubbish. He's not interested in finding anyone else at the moment, and there is nobody else involved."
Vernon and Tess, who share daughters Pheobe and Amber, were in a rough spot in 2010 when Vernon was caught up in a sexting scandal with UK glamour model Rhian Sugden, among other women. 10 years later when he was on I'm A Celebrity, he said his infidelity was 'in the past' and they had 'moved on' from that incident.
Norman has been in touch with his son every day since the split and he confirmed everything was all right, he added: "But it’s an amicable split, and there is no bad blood between them. They have just gone in different directions, that’s all. Sometimes these things happen for the better and this is one of those cases."
He also gave advice to his son, saying: "My advice to him is not to rush into another relationship and he’s not doing that because he’s got plenty of time. He's not as old as me and will come out well from this situation. I'm sure that everything will work out fine for them both."
Just days before the bombshell statement, Tess posted a telling photograph alongside her daughter Phoebe. The 57-year-old television personality shared a post as her daughter returned from New York as she shared a sweet picture of them together.
Their statement read: "After much consideration, and with a deep sense of care and respect for one another, we have made the decision to separate amicably," adding that they "remain great friends and most importantly, fully committed to our roles as loving and supportive parents, which will always be our priority".
They stated at the time that there are no other parties involved and asked for privacy.
