It is always good to know the boss has your back. It is one of the worst feelings in politics when they publicly admit they do not.

Back in 2024, the news broke that Rishi Sunak had not voted for his own mayoral candidate, Susan Hall. Rishi, it seems, is something of a trendsetter. Our very own Green hypnosis chief, Zack Polanski, admitted this week he had not voted Green in the local election.

Admittedly, his candidate won, so she will not lose sleep over it – but it must sting for Polanski that he could not be bothered to vote for his own party.

Now his list of errors is growing. First, there was that issue with hypnotherapy, a particularly sore spot for the Green Party leader who bristles when questioned about it.

Apparently, offering breast enlargement hypnotherapy is not something voters see as a leadership quality.

Then there were the fibs on the CV. We have all embellished our achievements to land a job, but Zack apparently claimed to be a spokesman for the Red Cross, which he was not.

He apologised, but then came the allegations that he had neglected to pay council tax on his houseboat.

Aside from the fact that living on a houseboat in London is one of the most Green Party things you can do, not paying tax on it seems rather suspect. Especially when he has told others to step down for the same mistake.

He claimed he did not vote because he was not registered, for fear his address would be public. But Zack must know you can remove yourself from the public election register by asking your local council.

Honesty matters in politics. But a pattern is emerging – Zack might just be a bit of a chancer.

He was a Liberal Democrat who thought raising tuition fees was a grand idea. Now he rails against the unfairness of the system with his Green colours pinned to his lapels.

Zack needs to present something authentic that younger voters can believe in. He needs to be the statesman Britain can imagine leading this country, not just play at being one.

And whilst he fibs on his CV, forgets to pay council tax, and fails to vote for his own team in local elections, it is hard to see that happening.
