Brits searching for their next holiday destination should look no further than a magical Italian island boasting temperatures of up to 32°C, stunning beaches, fantastic shopping and a mesmerising glowing blue grotto. Capri, a breathtaking island nestled in the Bay of Naples, is a famously sought-after holiday hotspot.

Travellers adore the island's dramatic steep cliffs, crystal-clear blue waters and abundant opportunities for boating and watersports. The glorious climate reaches average highs of 24°C as early as May, meaning Brits can make the most of Capri's beaches, harbours and bays while soaking up the sun. The island also boasts an array of charming, multi-coloured buildings, classic Italian statues and ancient Roman ruins, reports Daily Star.

History enthusiasts with a passion for the ancient world can explore the ruins of Villa Jovis – an imperial palace constructed by Emperor Tiberius.

Nearby lies Tiberius' Leap – where slaves and enemies of the emperor were reportedly hurled into the ocean below. Villa Damecuta and the Palazzo a Mare are also well worth a visit.

For those less interested in history who prefer to spend their holidays by the water, Capri equally delivers with its stunning bays and popular swimming spots.

The Marina Grande is the island's largest beach, offering ample space near the main port for leisurely strolls and sunbathing.

The shallow waters are perfectly safe for young children, and handy snack stands are on hand to keep hunger at bay.

Another beloved destination is Marina Piccola, an ideal spot for those wishing to admire glamorous yachts gliding across the Bay of Naples – and it's equally superb for snorkelling and swimming.

This charming seaside village is amongst the warmest locations on the island of Capri, and legend has it that Odysseus himself was enchanted by the Sirens from the surrounding clifftops.

One visitor wrote online: "If you want to find that place on the world of extreme natural beauty then look no further than Capri. This Marina, the water, the sun-soaked rocks are breathtaking.

"You look out and see the glittering turquoise water so clear you think it's CGI. No wonder every celeb comes sailing up to Capri."

Among the island's most beloved beaches is Bagni di Tiberio, boasting both pebble and sand areas, fantastic restaurants and breathtaking vistas.

One visitor noted on TripAdvisor: "One of the most beautiful seaside facilities ever visited, set in a magical ravine of Capri."

The island additionally provides access to the Blue Grotto – a spectacular sea cave where sunlight causes the water to shimmer a vivid blue.

It is widely believed that Roman emperors once used the grotto as their own private swimming pool.

Today, tourists can enjoy a boat tour of the grotto from around £19. There is also a green grotto that visitors describe as looking "looks like liquid emerald" and a white grotto adorned with stalactites and stalagmites. Visitors with a passion for retail therapy will find everything from glamorous designer boutiques stocking the latest fashions to budget-friendly handicraft stalls dotted around Capri.

The Piazza Umberto I is an ideal spot for a leisurely stroll, soaking up the sunshine while enjoying a coffee or glass of wine. You can also indulge in delicious gelato, pastries and classic Italian pastas and pizzas on Capri, which is always a welcome bonus.

The most affordable way to reach Capri is to fly from the UK into Naples International – flights start from just £47 on Skyscanner, with journey times of just two hours and 40 minutes. From there, the ferry crossing to Capri takes approximately 50 minutes and costs from around £19.
