
A school in Derby was placed into lockdown and pupils kept inside afer armed police arrested a man following reports of someone with a weapon. Armed officers raced to the scene on Great Northern Road, the location of Derby Cathedral School, shortly before 3pm yesterday, May 5, as students were preparing to leave for the day.
Derbyshire Police say a man in his 30s was arrested and no weapon was found. Pupils from a nearby school were held whilst officers safely arrested the man from Derby. The incident is understood to be a domestic incident.
A Derbyshire police statement said: "We were called to reports of a man potentially having a weapon in Great Northern Road, Derby, just before 3pm. No weapon had been seen, and nobody was threatened or injured.
"Armed officers were deployed to the scene, and a man was located and arrested – no weapon was found and there was no risk to the public.
"Pupils from a nearby school were briefly held inside while officers ensured the safe arrest of the man, and then they were able to leave the school.
"Following inquiries, the incident is understood to be a domestic incident.
"The man, who is in his 30s and from Derby, being arrested on suspicion of common assault, coercive and controlling behaviour and false imprisonment. He remains in police custody."
