An Instagram-famous cafe in a major UK shopping destination has closed its doors for the final time, with customers given just hours’ notice to visit before service ended on April 30. The branch, located inside Fenwick in Newcastle, had built a strong following since launching around 18 months ago, quickly becoming a go-to spot for shoppers and social media users drawn to its distinctive aesthetic.

Part of the EL&N cafe group, the site was known for its signature pink interiors, decorative floral displays and visually striking cakes and pastries that frequently appeared across Instagram feeds. The concept, which first gained traction in London, promised an eye-catching experience alongside a menu of sweet treats, coffees and savoury dishes.

Fenwick Newcastle had welcomed the brand in October 2024, describing it at the time as an “iconic” addition to the store. Since then, it attracted steady footfall, with customers praising both the presentation and the service. Online reviews highlighted it as a “pretty spot” with “lovely staff”.

However, the cafe’s run has now come to an end. In a statement shared on Facebook, Fenwick confirmed the closure, saying: “Last chance to experience EL&N at Fenwick Newcastle.

"Time is nearly up at EL&N, with the last orders on Thursday, April 30, 2026. After a year packed with events, EL&N will close this April.”

The news prompted disappointment from regulars, with one customer writing: “Very disappointed with this news.

"It’s such a great venue with great staff. Good luck to Mark and the rest of the staff, best wishes for the future.”

Despite the closure, the company has indicated the move was planned rather than a sign of wider trouble.

In a statement, a spokesperson said: “Our pop-up in Newcastle Fenwick was always intended to be a short-term activation. We wanted to bring the concept to Newcastle and let the locals enjoy some of our hero products during the pop-up.

"We had such a positive reaction in the city so it’s definitely given us great confidence to expand further North in the future.”

EL&N continues to operate multiple locations across the UK, including several sites in London as well as branches in Birmingham, York and Chester.
