Viewers of The Testaments are keen to discover more about Aunt Vidala actress Mabel Li.

It chronicles a new generation of young women coming of age in Gilead, mentored by Aunt Lydia (played by Ann Dowd), alongside other women who experienced life prior to the oppressive regime being established.

Mabel Li is an Australian actress with a multicultural heritage. Her parents hail from Guangzhou in China, and relocated to New Zealand, where Li was born, before ultimately settling in Australia.

Li developed a passion for acting at an early age but was reluctant about pursuing the profession due to the absence of Asian representation on screen.

"I really enjoyed acting and I felt good at it in school, but it didn't really feel like an option because there was no one who looked like me on TV," she told SBS Food.

Nevertheless, she decided to pursue her ambitions and impressively secured acceptance into Australia's prestigious National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA). Following graduation, Li made her television debut in the murder mystery drama The Tailings.

The Testaments represents one of her most significant roles thus far. Despite being relatively new to the industry, Li already possesses notable connections.

Mabel Li's famous connections explained Li appears to be friends with Bridgerton star Yerin Ha, who recently achieved mainstream recognition on the Netflix period drama. The pair have been engaging on social media for years, occasionally posting messages of encouragement on one another's content.

They were also photographed together in a 2018 photoshoot seemingly celebrating women of colour in the acting profession. The image shows the duo alongside five women, including Heartbreak High star Chika Ikogwe.

It remains unclear how Li and Ha are acquainted, though they both trained at NIDA.

Li's famous connections don't end there. The emerging Disney+ star appears to be friends with fellow Australian actress Sophie Wilde.

Netflix viewers will recognise Wilde as Mia from Everything Now, while horror enthusiasts will know the star from Bring Her Back or Talk To Me.
