Chris told him: “You seem to be, sort of, relaxing into the most scatty version of yourself I’ve ever experienced,” as Kris joked: “Sketchy or scatty?” Chris clarified: “Both, in a way! You seem to be, sort of, really free.”

The Death in Paradise actor explained: “I’m sort of loving where I am at the moment. I’m well into my 50s now and it gets to the point where I, sort of really… I still feel young. And that’s good, I think, because my kids are still quite young, so I need to be young.

“But also I’m kind of just not caring quite so much about stuff, and I’m finding that being outdoors and doing outdoorsy stuff is really working for me, because it’s good for your mental health and everything is about mental health these days.”

Chris mused: “Well, nature is the greatest teacher. I love that.

“It’s not that you don’t care – that’s actually not what you mean, because we care about the important stuff, we just don’t care about the nonsense anymore! It’s the jettisoning of all the nonsense.”

It’s not the first time Kris has opened up about his health – in 2008 he was hit by a car while in Bristol after a night out with friends. He was rushed to Bristol Royal Infirmary for a scan, which confirmed head injuries – and forced him to start three weeks late in a play he was scheduled to perform in.

Kris admitted at the time it was “scary” to return to the stage after the collision.
