Strictly Come Dancing judge Craig Revel Horwood laughingly told the audience at his new show Revelations: Songs Boys Don’t Sing at East Grinstead’s Chequer Mead Theatre last night that it is BBC licence fee payers who are to thank for his lavish lifestyle. The Strictly judge, 61, lives in an eight-bedroom property boasting a swimming pool and an entire room devoted to storing his clothes.

The £2million mansion is located in King’s Cliffe, Northamptonshire, and was purchased by Craig in 2021 with his £200,000 a year BBC paycheque. He told the audience of his fans: “If I am ‘nice’ I won’t make any money, darling. But it has worked out rather well. I have got an eight bedroom mansion with a swimming pool. My dressing box at home is one room… thanks to all your wonderful TV licences.”

According to The Mirror, Craig said: “No, I have been very fortunate. I mean, Strictly has been brilliant as a Saturday job, but it did cast me as the villain [but the villain in panto] is only on for 15 minutes of the show and you get paid a fortune."

He is also permitted to build a gym, a wine store, a butler’s kitchen and a snug, along with a large entrance hall and master bedroom.

In 2009, Craig confirmed that his “assets and turnover” was worth more than £1million.

His BBC salary is missing from the star salary list, however, due to varying rules with independent production companies which mean stars are not directly employed by the Beeb – and their salaries do not have to be exposed.
