Sophisticated weather charts indicate Britons are bracing for nine consecutive days of blizzards that will blanket snow across every corner of the UK.

GFS model charts suggest the wintery mayhem will commence late on January 27, as a storm rolls in from the Atlantic, delivering snow to Northern Ireland, Wales and south-western England.

These flurries are forecast to shift eastwards during January 28, with additional snowfall striking Scotland, the Midlands and the south-east. Glasgow, Edinburgh, Birmingham and London all appear to be directly in the path.

On January 29, the charts reveal heavy snow descending upon southern England during the evening hours. Plymouth, Bristol, Southampton and London could all witness the white stuff once more.

North-eastern England confronts the most severe snow on January 30, with charts indicating brutal flurries around Newcastle. Aberdeen and Dundee might also experience some, whilst light flurries are anticipated across East Anglia.

For January 31, the GFS model indicates snow will affect an enormous stretch of England once again. East Anglia, the Midlands and southern areas can all anticipate some - with London appearing to be targeted yet again.

The charts reveal intermittent flurries persisting throughout Northern Ireland, Wales, northern and central England, plus Scotland on February 1 and 2. Substantial snow is predicted to return to northern England - with Newcastle once more confronting the most brutal flurries - on February 3.

Snow coverage charts for the morning of February 4 reveal that every corner of the UK will be blanketed with snow, whilst fresh flurries persist across northern areas and Wales.

Snow depth forecasts indicate that up to 75cm (roughly 30 inches) could accumulate in the Scottish Highlands throughout this nine-day spell.

Northern England could witness 46cm (18 inches) of snowfall, with 16cm (roughly six inches) potentially settling across Wales and south-eastern England.

The Midlands and south-west regions can anticipate between 7cm to 8cm, according to the charts.

The Met Office has also confirmed that snow is expected towards the close of this month and into early February.

Nevertheless, the national weather service doesn't anticipate such extensive coverage at present.

The Met Office outlook for January 24 to February 2 explains: "The UK will likely continue to sit in the battleground between Atlantic weather systems attempting to push in from the west, but tending to stall in the vicinity of the UK as they encounter high pressure to the north and northeast.

"As such, further spells of rain or showers are likely at times, which may be heavy and persistent, especially in the south and west, with the best of any drier interludes in the far north and northwest.

"Whilst mild conditions will encroach into the south and west at times, it is likely to turn somewhat colder through this period, bringing the risk of some snow, more especially on hills in Scotland and northern England."
