
An amber warning for wind has been issued by the Met Office as the agency warns of power cuts in regions up and down the country.
The latest amber warning covers parts of southwest England, including Cornwall. The wind warning will be in place from 4pm to 11pm today (Thursday, January 8) in Cornwall. The rest of the South West will also be affected by several yellow warning for snow which will be in place in Somerset and Devon from 8pm tonight to 9am on Friday.
The detailed forecast after the amber warning read: "Storm Goretti is likely to bring a period of exceptionally strong northwesterly winds to the Isles of Scilly and parts of Cornwall on Thursday evening, with peak gusts of 80-100 mph in exposed areas. Winds are expected to increase rapidly from 30-40 mph with violent gusts that may persist for 2-3 hours before easing. Winds will remain strong with the broader yellow warning in force until Friday morning."
