A man who is serving a 23-year-long prison sentence has absconded from a UK jail. Cheshire Police released an appeal for information on Wednesday, January 7, the day after a 43-year-old man was reported missing from HMP Thorn Cross.  

Kieran Cameron was reported missing from the Warrington prison at 9.20pm on Tuesday, January 6. Cameron is serving time for an attempted murder in Dorset in 2016, Cheshire Police said. 

Cameron is described as white, around 5’ 6” tall, of medium build, with heavily receding hair and a ginger and grey beard. 

He is known to have extensive links to Manchester, Liverpool and Dorset, the force added. 

Officers have now issued an urgent appeal to the public for help to trace the man. 

Police have urged not to approach the man if seen, but to instead contact emergency services. 

Detective Chief Inspector Nick Henderson, of the Serious and Organised Crime Unit at Cheshire Police, said: “We are appealing for the help of the public to trace Kieran Cameron, who is unlawfully at large after leaving HMP Thorn Cross in Warrington.

"If you see him, do not approach him, call 999 immediately. If you have any information as to where Cameron may be, please call 101 or visit www.cheshire.police.uk/tell-us quoting IML 2247029."

This comes just hours after two prisoners, including a convicted murderer, were arrested after absconding from prison on New Year's Day. 

Matthew Armstrong, 35, and Daniel Washbourne, 40, were arrested today after leaving HMP Leyhill in South Gloucestershire last week. 

Washbourne was captured at around 1.30am on Wednesday by Avon and Somerset Police officers in Bristol. 

Armstrong was arrested near Henley-in-Arden train station by Warwickshire Police officers at just before noon following a sighting reported by a member of the public. He’s now in police custody.
