The 12-year-old prince smiled sweetly and thanked the fan, however many royal fans were furious by the interaction.

This is because many believed that it was an inappropriate comment for a fan to have made to the young royal, especially as George had sadly never met his grandmother, who died in a tragic 1997 car crash.

One fan wrote on X: "I think it's a very weird thing to say to George.”

Another said: “Absolutely unacceptable.”

However, while royal fans may have felt such a comment was inappropriate, both George’s parents Prince William and Princess Catherine did not seem to mind the comment being made.

William, who was with George at the time, was heard saying on video: “That’s very kind of you John.”

Meanwhile Princess Catherine, who was not there in the moment but was told by the fan himself about the Diana comment minutes later, simply smiled and said: “I agree. Awh that’s very sweet of you.”

It is believed to be the first time a royal fan has directly brought up Diana to the three royal children.
