
Two police officers are among three people who have been seriously injured following a major 3-vehicle crash on Cornwall's busiest road.
Emergency services rushed to the scene of the collision on the A30 at around 8pm last night (December 7), which involved two cars and a police vehicle. A number of people suffered injuries and were treated by ambulance crews. Three men, including two police officers, suffered serious injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital. Their families have been informed.
A stretch of the A30 was closed for 11 hours as an investigation of the scene was carried out. National Highways warned drivers of the closure and a diversion route was put in place while the road was closed.
Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) said: "We are aware of the incident and have requested a paper referral from the force.
"Once this is received we will assess it to decide if any further action is required from us."
Police are appealing for anyone with information to get in contact with the force.
A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: "Three people have been injured following a serious collision on the A30 near Hayle last night, Sunday 7 December.
"We were notified just before 8pm to reports of a collision involving a police vehicle and two cars on the A30 between Roseworthy and Marsh Lane.
"A number of people were treated by ambulance services and three men, including two police officers, were conveyed to hospital with serious injuries. Their families have been informed.
"A full road closure was put in place at St Erth roundabout and at the Hayle bypass while emergency services worked at the scene.
"The road was re-opened this morning.
"Due to the incident involving a police vehicle, a mandatory referral was made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).
"Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact police via our website or by calling 101 quoting log 701."
